Practical Advice

8 Things to Know Before You Go

Planning a UAE museum visit from abroad involves more preparation than most destinations. These are the points that matter most.

🎟️
Book Museum of the Future well in advance
This is not optional advice — the museum sells out days and sometimes weeks ahead. Book through the official website only. Do not trust any third-party seller.
🌡️
Check seasonal timing carefully
Outdoor walks between Abu Dhabi's Saadiyat Island museums can be brutal from June–September (45°C). October–April is far more comfortable and the visitor experience significantly better.
👗
Dress code applies at most venues
Covered shoulders and knees are required at Louvre Abu Dhabi, the Abrahamic Family House, and all Sharjah museums. Keep a shawl or light layer in your bag regardless.
💳
Cards are widely accepted — AED is king
All major museums accept cards. However, keep some AED cash for transport, smaller venues, and the remarkable food stalls in Al Fahidi. ATMs are everywhere.
🚇
Dubai Metro reaches Museum of the Future directly
The Financial Centre Metro Station on the Red Line puts you at the Museum of the Future's doorstep. Abu Dhabi museums require a taxi, ride-share, or organised tour bus.
📸
Photography rules differ per museum
Museum of the Future allows photography in most areas. Louvre Abu Dhabi prohibits flash and tripods. Sharjah museums have restricted zones. Always check signage on arrival.
Museum of the Future needs 3–4 hours minimum
Many visitors underestimate the depth and scale of the experience. Rushing through in 90 minutes misses the majority of the exhibitions. Build a full half-day into your itinerary.
🏛️
Combine Saadiyat museums in one day
Louvre Abu Dhabi, Abrahamic Family House, and eventually NHMAD are all within walking distance on Saadiyat Island. Planning one focused Saadiyat day is far more efficient than separate trips.
